Anthuane Pereira - Presentation 2 Reflection
Group 1 delivered a well organized and informative presentation on Healthcare and the Economy, effectively showing how healthcare access, historical developments, and economic factors are closely interconnected. Their clear timeline, beginning with informal care during the colonial era and progressing to the Affordable Care Act, offered a strong chronological understanding of how the U.S. healthcare system has evolved. The explanation of the ACA was particularly effective, as the group highlighted its goals, impact on expanding coverage, and the ongoing challenges regarding rising premiums and insurance accessibility. By addressing racial health disparities from slavery, the Jim Crow era, and through modern statistics, the group successfully emphasized how history continues to shape unequal healthcare outcomes for marginalized populations today. The presentation also stood out for incorporating technological and scientific advancements, demonstrating how medical innovations from germ theory to AI diagnostics have improved care, while also increasing system costs. The comparison between public and private hospitals was well-structured, clearly outlining differences in funding, purpose, and patient experience, which deepened understanding of the debate regarding whether healthcare is a human right or a business. The group strengthened their presentation by addressing the nursing shortage, student debt, and the double burden faced by college students who struggle to afford care. Visuals, statistics, and quotes from leaders such as JFK and the WHO enhanced credibility and engagement. Overall, the presentation was highly informative, cohesive, and demonstrated strong teamwork and thorough research.
Group 2 presented on Environment and the Economy, addressing the connection between environmental sustainability and financial stability. Although the topic is relevant and meaningful, the presentation faced challenges that affected its overall clarity and effectiveness. The most noticeable issue was the organization of content, as the ideas did not flow in a clear or structured sequence. Transitions between points felt abrupt, and the group moved quickly from one concept to another without showing strong connections. As a result, it was difficult to fully understand how environmental issues, such as pollution, climate policies, or renewable energy, influence economic growth, employment, and the cost of living. In addition, the group did not present a brochure in the end as well as only had 3 of the 3 interviews. The absence of the brochure reduced the opportunity for the audience to engage with the topic in a visual and informative way, while the lack of an interview removed a personal perspective that could have strengthened their presentation and made the topic more relatable. Overall, it was a good presentation however there were some areas where the group could have done better.
As I am in group 3, I believe we did a good job in informing the audience about our topic. Our topic was immigration and families. We talked about the history of immigrations and how it has changed over time and how it looks now. We also compared it to other countries showing how different the systems are around the world. The presentation also incorporated examples of organizations that support immigrant families, showing how communities and resources can positively impact those navigating complex immigration systems. We were able to interview 3 people about their experience as an immigrant. These interviews provided a personal and relatable perspective, allowing the audience to hear real-life experiences, challenges, and successes. Although I believe that we had a good presentation overall, I do believe that one of our teammates could have been a little more prepared. They relied heavily on reading directly from slides and did not provide as much detail or explanation as could have been offered. Despite this, the presentation was cohesive, informative, and engaging. Overall, the group succeeded in delivering clear and meaningful information, allowing the audience to better understand immigration, its history, and its impact on families, while also providing real-world examples that made the topic tangible and relatable.
Group 4 presented on Education and Families, providing a comprehensive overview of the education system in the United States and offering a comparative analysis with education systems in other countries. The group effectively highlighted how differences in policies, curriculum, and access to resources shape student experiences and outcomes, allowing the audience to understand the strengths and challenges of the U.S. system in a global context. The presentation was clear and well-structured, with information presented in a logical sequence that made complex topics easy to follow. Each group member contributed knowledgeably, showing a thorough understanding of the subject matter. One of the strongest aspects of the presentation was the interviews, which provided personal perspectives on education and family experiences. Additionally, the resources included in the brochure were a good addition, offering the audience practical tools and references to further explore the topic. These resources enhanced the overall value of the presentation by allowing the audience to connect what they learned in class to real world applications. Overall, the group delivered a highly informative, engaging, and professional presentation. Their preparation, use of clear explanations, supporting materials, and interviews effectively conveyed the significance of family involvement in education and encouraged the audience to consider how education systems can support students and families more equitably around the world.
Really good overall reflection!
